Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Corruption remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, particularly at the local government level. Bida Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State is not exempt from this issue, as corruption can undermine public trust in government institutions and hinder social development. Digital media, particularly social media platforms, have proven to be effective in advocating for transparency and accountability. These platforms enable the dissemination of anti-corruption messages, mobilization of public support, and real-time engagement between citizens and government institutions. This study aims to explore how digital media is being used to promote anti-corruption awareness in Bida LGA, examining the effectiveness of these platforms in raising awareness, encouraging civic action, and fostering a culture of accountability.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to combat corruption in Bida LGA, there is still a lack of public awareness regarding the prevalence and consequences of corruption. While digital media has the potential to raise awareness and mobilize citizens, the extent of its effectiveness in promoting anti-corruption awareness in the region remains unclear. This study will examine how digital media is being used to advocate for transparency and accountability and its influence on public attitudes towards corruption in Bida LGA.
